US warns Middle East conflict could escalate rapidly as Houthis target Saudi Arabia

Euro Times — The United States has warned its citizens that the security environment across the Middle East remains complex and could deteriorate without warning, urging Americans in the region to remain highly vigilant and prepare for flight cancellations, airspace closures and other travel disruptions.

In its latest security guidance, Washington said Iran-backed Houthis have engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including attacks involving civilian airports, warning that the military conflict has the potential to escalate rapidly.

Americans urged to reconsider travel

Americans currently outside the Middle East were advised to seriously reconsider travel to or through the region. Those who do travel were urged to closely monitor airport and airline operations as schedules and airspace restrictions may change at short notice.

The warning comes amid renewed Houthi hostilities against Saudi Arabia and growing concern over the impact of the conflict on airports, civilian aviation and regional airspace.

Warning extends beyond the Middle East

The advisory also highlighted risks beyond the region. U.S. diplomatic facilities, including sites outside the Middle East, have been targeted, according to the guidance.

Washington warned that Iran and groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or locations associated with the United States and Americans around the world, including American businesses and other institutions.

The State Department urged citizens to follow the latest country-specific alerts on its official travel website.
