Iranian Opposition Sources Report Death of Meysam Khamenei at Tehran Hospital

Iranian opposition sources cite contacts inside the country reporting the death of Ali Khamenei’s youngest son, with differing accounts of the hospital involved.

Several Iranian opposition sources say they have received information from multiple contacts inside Iran indicating that Meysam Khamenei, the youngest son of Ali Khamenei, has died at a hospital in Tehran, following reports that his health had deteriorated in recent days.

According to the opposition sources, accounts differ over where the reported death occurred. Some identify Baqiyatallah Hospital, affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, while others name Khatam al-Anbiya Hospital.

In recent days, unofficial Iranian media outlets, including the Bahar channel described as close to former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, reported that Meysam Khamenei had been hospitalized after developing facial asymmetry and speech difficulties, which those outlets attributed to a heart attack.

Who is Meysam Khamenei?

Meysam Hosseini Khamenei, born in 1978, is Ali Khamenei’s youngest son and fourth child. He has maintained a relatively low media profile compared with siblings whose names have appeared in reports on political, religious and economic networks surrounding the office of Iran’s supreme leader.

He married the daughter of Mahmoud Loulachian, a traditional merchant in Tehran’s bazaar whom opposition sources accuse of links to networks of economic influence and corruption in Iran.

Those sources allege that the marriage connected Meysam Khamenei to extensive business activities through his father-in-law. They cite major commercial and industrial groups, including the Golestan trading group and the Farda group, which includes automaker Farda Motors.

Food trading and car manufacturing groups

Golestan is a well-known brand in Iran’s consumer market, active in the trading and distribution of food products, particularly tea, rice, pulses and spices. Over the decades, its operations have expanded into a wider network of commercial, industrial and service businesses.

Farda Motors operates in vehicle manufacturing and assembly in Iran, producing passenger cars and sport utility vehicles through industrial partnerships with Chinese companies, alongside distribution and after-sales service networks.

Published company information puts its stated production capacity at around 120,000 vehicles a year. That figure refers to designed capacity, not necessarily actual annual output.

Public information about the companies associates Golestan and Farda Motors with business interests of Iran’s Gerami family. The opposition sources mention the two groups in connection with their claims about Meysam Khamenei’s business ties through his wife’s family.

Opposition sources draw a parallel with Ahmad Khomeini

Iranian opposition sources compared the possibility of confirmation of Meysam Khamenei’s death with the death of Ahmad Khomeini, son of the Islamic Republic’s founder Ruhollah Khomeini, in 1995.

Those sources said his death would not, in itself, change Iran’s political situation, but could renew attention to the position of members of the Khamenei family and their connections within economic and political circles surrounding the supreme leader’s office.
