An air attack hit a jet fuel storage facility at King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Saturday, September 19, 2026, triggering a fire and sending thick black smoke into the air around the airport.
Images and videos verified earlier by Reuters showed flames and a large column of black smoke near the airport, coinciding with an aerial threat warning and disruption to flight operations.
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, the attack struck a facility used to store jet fuel inside the airport.
It was not immediately clear whether the attack was carried out with a missile or a drone, and no group had claimed responsibility at the time of publication. There was therefore no verified information attributing the attack to the Houthis or any other party.
King Khalid International Airport experienced flight disruptions, delays and some cancellations following the incident, while Saudi authorities continued to monitor developments.
The attack comes amid escalating military tensions in the Gulf and growing risks to infrastructure and civil aviation across the region.
