Barcelona fire early LaLiga warning with 28 goals in six games as Real Madrid chase
Euro Times — Barcelona have delivered an emphatic early warning to their LaLiga rivals, taking a perfect 18 points from their opening six league matches while scoring 28 goals. Real Madrid remain three points behind, ensuring Spain’s title race already has a familiar edge.
The official LaLiga standings underline the scale of Barcelona’s attacking start. They have scored 28 goals to Real Madrid’s 17, while both clubs have conceded six. Real Betis sit third on 15 points, with Atlético Madrid fourth on 13.
Barcelona turn up the volume
The clearest statement yet came in Barcelona’s 7-2 win over Racing Santander at Camp Nou. According to Reuters, Raphinha scored a hat-trick, while João Cancelo, Gabriel Jesus and Lamine Yamal were also among the scorers as Hansi Flick’s side overwhelmed their opponents.
The result also carried a landmark for Flick, who became the first Barcelona coach to win his first seven competitive matches of a season. In LaLiga, Barça have won six from six and built a goal difference of plus 22.
There is, however, one caveat beneath the spectacular numbers. Barcelona conceded twice against Racing, and Reuters noted defensive lapses despite their overwhelming attacking superiority. Against stronger opposition, balancing that aggressive approach with greater defensive control could become crucial.
Real Madrid stay close — the hard way
Real Madrid are second with 15 points from six matches, having won five and lost one. Their attacking numbers are less explosive than Barcelona’s, but they have remained within touching distance by finding ways to win difficult games.
The latest example was a dramatic 3-2 victory over Elche. Madrid led by two goals, one scored by Kylian Mbappé, before Elche fought back to level in the second half. Substitute Carlos Espí then struck the winner in stoppage time. José Mourinho expressed concern afterwards about his side losing control of the match, Reuters reported.
The comparison between Spain’s two giants is striking: both have conceded six goals, but Barcelona have scored 11 more. That gives the Catalan side a sizeable advantage on goal difference, although six rounds are far too early to draw conclusions about the championship.
Betis and Atlético remain in the picture
The early race is not confined to Barcelona and Real Madrid. Real Betis also have 15 points, while Atlético Madrid have collected 13 and scored 14 goals. Atlético’s recent 4-0 victory over Osasuna suggested they are beginning to gather momentum and remain close enough to the leaders to shape the race.
Barcelona’s next league test comes away to Sevilla on Saturday, 19 September. Sevilla enter the fixture with 13 points, making it a significantly tougher examination of whether Flick’s team can preserve their perfect league record.
A fast start to a long race
After only six rounds, the title race is still in its infancy. Yet the opening numbers are difficult to ignore: Barcelona possess the league’s most prolific attack and strongest goal difference, Real Madrid continue to apply pressure despite less convincing passages of play, and Betis, Atlético and Sevilla remain close behind.
Barcelona have set the early pace at an extraordinary scoring rate. The next phase of the season will show whether that firepower is sustainable — and how quickly their rivals can respond.
