Two IRGC commanders killed, 13 security personnel wounded in armed clashes in Saravan

Two senior figures in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps were killed and at least 13 military and security personnel were seriously wounded during hours of armed clashes in Saravan, in Iran’s southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan province.
The public relations office of the IRGC Ground Force’s Quds Headquarters confirmed the death of Brigadier General Hossein Zarifi, commander of the Sajjad operational headquarters in Saravan, during what it described as the headquarters forces’ “latest operation in the Saravan area.” Iranian sources later also reported the death of Major Ahmad Zeraati, the intelligence chief of the operational headquarters. Hours of clashes in Jahadabad
According to Haalvsh, which reports on Sistan and Baluchestan, the fighting broke out in Saravan’s Jahadabad area, locally known as Dab, between security forces and armed men and continued for several hours before ending on Wednesday evening.
Citing local sources, Haalvsh said Zarifi was killed after being shot, while Ahmad Zeraati was killed in the same clashes. It also reported that at least 13 military and security personnel suffered serious injuries.
IRGC says five gunmen were killed
According to a statement from the IRGC Ground Force’s Quds Headquarters, forces from the IRGC, the Intelligence Ministry and police took part in the operation. The headquarters said five armed men and one security officer were killed. Different sources have reported varying figures and details about the casualties.
Local reports said security forces surrounded a house on Shooshtari 8 Street in Jahadabad, while the area witnessed gunfire, explosions, a heavy security deployment and closures of some roads leading to the scene.
Escalating clashes in Sistan and Baluchestan
The Saravan fighting comes amid a notable rise in security operations and armed clashes in Sistan and Baluchestan in recent weeks. On September 12, the Quds Headquarters said three IRGC members and four armed men had been killed in another confrontation in the Bakhshan area of Saravan.
Zahedan also saw another clash on September 18 that Iranian authorities said ended with two armed men killed and a third arrested, amid reinforced security deployments in parts of the province.
As of publication, no group had claimed responsibility for the Jahadabad clashes, while local sources continued to monitor the casualty toll and details of the operation.
