European security alert: Pro-ISIS terrorist messages urge attacks on protesters and police

Spanish authorities have detected online incitement targeting police and demonstrators. No specific imminent attack plot has been confirmed.

Euro Times – Europe. Spanish authorities have detected online messages on a website supportive of the ISIS terrorist organisation urging attacks on police officers and demonstrators amid protests in several European countries, according to media reports published on 23 October 2026.

Spanish newspaper El País reported that an internal document from the Interior Ministry’s cybersecurity coordination office described the messages, which sought to exploit public gatherings and unrest. Belgian broadcaster RTL Info also reported the warning.

Protests across Europe

According to Euronews, the warnings concern protests in countries including France, Spain, Italy and Portugal. Portuguese security authorities were reported to be following the information in coordination with relevant agencies.

The reports come amid heightened security attention around large demonstrations, including events planned in France on Saturday 24 October.

No confirmed imminent attack plot

Crucially, the reports did not establish a specific operational plan, identified target, date or location for an imminent attack. Online incitement should not be confused with evidence of an attack that is ready to be carried out.

Security officials face the challenge of protecting demonstrators and police while assessing whether online threats translate into credible operational intelligence.
