Satellite Images Reveal Large-Scale Deployment of IRGC Boats in the Strait of Hormuz

Satellite imagery has revealed a significant naval deployment by the naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps inside the Strait of Hormuz, highlighting heightened operational activity in one of the world’s most strategically sensitive maritime corridors.
According to the available imagery and open-source tracking assessments, at least 40 fast-attack craft and missile-equipped boats were observed operating in the strait. The vessels are believed to have launched from the Shahid Sayyed Majid Naval Base in Sirik, southern Iran, and were spotted approximately 14 nautical miles off Iran’s southern coastline.
This type of “swarm” deployment is widely recognized as part of Iran’s asymmetric naval doctrine. The tactic is designed to project deterrence, demonstrate readiness, and signal escalation potential without engaging in direct large-scale confrontation.
The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and remains one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints, with a substantial share of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments transiting through the narrow waterway.
As of the time of publication, no official statement has been issued by Iranian authorities regarding the purpose of the deployment, and no maritime incidents linked to the activity have been formally reported.
