Weather Warning Issued for Parts of England Already Hit by Severe Rain

Euro Times / London

Parts of England that have already been saturated by days of heavy rainfall are expected to face further downpours next week, prompting the Met Office to issue a new weather warning.

A yellow weather warning for rain has been announced for the South West of England, running from midday on Monday until 9am on Tuesday, as forecasters warn that additional heavy rainfall could worsen flooding risks in already affected areas.

The warning follows weeks of stormy conditions across the region. Earlier this week, a major incident was declared in Somerset after flooding linked to Storm Chandra affected around 50 properties, according to local authorities.

As of Saturday evening, government flood monitoring systems had already recorded 57 flood warnings—meaning flooding is expected—and 117 flood alerts, where flooding remains possible, even before the new warning officially takes effect.

The Met Office said rainfall totals of 10–20mm could fall widely across the South West, with isolated areas such as Dartmoor in Devon potentially seeing 30–50mm.

Forecasters added that there is a small chance of homes and businesses being flooded, while fast-flowing or deep floodwater could pose a danger to life in some locations.

Authorities continue to urge residents in vulnerable areas to monitor official updates and take precautions as further disruption remains possible.
