Euro Times / Stockholm

A fire broke out on Saturday evening in a six-storey residential building in the Skäggetorp district of Linköping in southern Sweden, filling the stairwell with smoke and forcing residents to be evacuated through balconies.

Emergency services said the alarm was raised shortly after 8:00pm. At first, firefighters were unable to determine the exact location of the blaze, and smoke divers were deployed to locate it.

By 8:40pm, the fire was traced to the building’s basement. Seven ambulances and multiple rescue service units were dispatched to the scene.

Authorities confirmed that the fire was fully extinguished by around 9:00pm, although the building was left without electricity following the incident.

One person was taken to hospital, but the extent of their injuries remains unknown. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
